The Bio-Resources Development Centre, Upper Shillong, felicitated 17 traditional healers of Meghalaya, promoting the indigenous system of medicine in the state.
The programme was held at the Health and Wellness Centre, Additional Secretariat, Shillong, and attended by dignitaries including Dr. Joram, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, and Director AYUSH.
Out of the 17 healers, nine completed the evaluation process and met the established criteria, earning official certification. These certified healers are recognized for their expertise in treating common ailments, jaundice, traditional bone setting, and arthritis.
This recognition integrates them into the broader healthcare framework, promoting inclusive and accessible healthcare in communities.
The certification process is part of the Voluntary Certification Scheme for Traditional Community Healthcare Providers (VCSTCHP), a pioneering initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
