The North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) is organising the 17th Edition of Mega Event: Celebrating North East India Festival in association with Consulate General of India, Milan on September 9 at the historic Museum – Villa Necchi Campiglio, in the fashion capital of the world Milan, Italy.

The Meghalaya Tourism and Nagaland Tourism will also showcase the tourism potentials of the two states at the festival.

Eight fashion designers from the North East will display their exotic collection in sustainable textiles and weaves of the region to be showcased by the top models of Milan fashion industry.

The folk dancers of the North East will create a magical evening at the beautiful venue of Milan on September 9.

A strong contingent of delegates from North East composed of performers, designers, models, artistes, officials, etc are travelling to participate and attend the programme.

After the stupendous success of last year’s International Edition at Washington DC, USA, this is a huge challenge for NEIFT, led by its CEO and the Festival Director Vikram Rai Medhi to showcase the rich heritage of Sustainable Textiles of the North East region in the Mecca of fashion – Milan.

Medhi said, “The Meghalaya Tourism and Nagaland Tourism have come forward to join hands in presenting the vibrant region of India to the Who’s Who of Milan’s cultural connoisseurs and political leaders. The Ministry of DONER, Ministry of Textiles, KVIC, Ministry of MSME, etc have come forward to support and be associated with the Festival.”

Ranald Wahlang of Meghalaya Tourism said that this festival will give an opportunity to Meghalaya to showcase its natural tourism potentials to a niche European tourist which will definitely bring international tourists to Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, Lisapila Aier, Senior PRO, Government of Nagaland said that the festival at Milan will be a curtain raiser for Hornbill Festival which is celebrating its silver jubilee in its next year’s edition.
