The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall likely over Meghalaya during May 19 and 20.
Owing to the heavy rain forecasts, the IMD has placed an orange alert so as to urge the locals to “be prepared” for the inclement weather.
According to the IMD, moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall will occur over West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over East Garo Hills, East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills.
On May 20, the IMD predicted moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy rainfall over south West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and West Jaintia Hills and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills.
It said thunderstorms and lightning and gusty wind with wind speed of 30-40 Kmph is very likely to occur over most parts of the state on both days.
