Some 5,619 people were affected by the effects of Cyclone Remal, with one fatality and five injuries.
There were 271 villages affected and 903 houses damaged, with a further 95 cases of infrastructure affected by the cyclone as of 11am today morning, Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla informed.
The government has disbursed Rs 19.85 crore to the state’s 12 districts through the Deputy Commissioners to provide immediate relief and compensation.
The worst affected districts, Shylla, said are Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills; the former saw 1,243 people affected in seven villages and the latter 761 people in 72 villages.
Across the state, the electricity infrastructure and roads took a hit, especially in North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills, with restoration and clearing work under process.
There has been no electricity in South West Garo Hills since May 26 due to the storm. West and East Jaintia Hills also bore the brunt of the storm, with the one loss of life reported from EJH.
