Shillong, May 15: Meghalaya BJP today held a prayer meeting dedicated to the souls of three Baptist church leaders, who were brutally killed in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

Rev Vumthang Sitlhou, Rev Kaigoulun Lhouvum and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou, were shot dead and four others injured in an attack by suspected militants while returning from Churachandpur after attending a religious congregation on May 13.

The prayer service was attended by State BJP President Rikman G Momin, party leaders and members.

BJP Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang urged party members to dedicate a minute each day to pray for the people of Manipur, who are enduring immense suffering due to ongoing violence. He condemned violent acts, reminding everyone that Meghalaya remains a haven of harmony.

He called for peace, urging individuals to participate in one another’s cultural festivals to foster a deeper understanding.

Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait said the brutal killing of the church leaders is a crime against humanity. She expressed confidence that justice would prevail.

State Vice President, Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit, who led the prayer service reminded everyone of Jesus Christ’s message of love and forgiveness and highlighted mankind’s need for compassion in the face of adversity.

The gathering prayed for calm and peace in Manipur and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting harmony in Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, the Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) in its condemnation has expressed unity with various Christian forums, churches, and councils and called for a decisive response from leaders and organisations across religious and cultural lines.

The KJCLF has appealed the President and Prime Minister, to take immediate and appropriate measures to address the ongoing conflict in Manipur. They stressed the need for violence cessation among all concerned groups to enable peace-building efforts.
