The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has been awarded by the Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for its speedy implementation of the National eVidhan Application (NEVA).
Meghalaya is one of nine recipients of the award, which was presented to Meghalaya by Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, at the national workshop on NeVA held in New Delhi on May 25.
The award was received by NEVA nodal officers Dapborlang Marwein and Lawanda Lyndem.
Assembly Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons expressed his gratitude for Meghalaya being recognised for its efforts in the introduction of NEVA.
“I’m sure members will adapt to the new technology and we will cut down the use of paper,” Simons said.
NEVA is a work-flow system that helps the Chair of the House to conduct proceedings smoothly, MLAs to carry out their duties in the House efficiently and to conduct legislative business of the House in a paperless manner, a press release said today.
The aim of the project is to bring all the legislatures of the country together on one platform, thereby creating a massive data depository without having the complexity of multiple applications.
The Meghalaya Assembly will become fully paperless starting next session, Simons also informed. He informed that a circular has been issued directing the discontinuation of distribution of hard copies of Assembly papers, such as calendars, list of business, etc.
