The Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) has lauded the Health Department for a “visionary approach” in addressing the shortage of doctors in the state.
Some 400 new doctors were recruited into the regular services in January this year, “marking a significant milestone in improving healthcare services across various health institutions in Meghalaya,” a press release stated today.
The MMSA, headquartered in the Health Department’s Laitumkhrah complex, is led by its president Dr YA Phira and general secretary Dr R Pohsnem.
The pair called the creation of the Meghalaya Medical Recruitment Board (MMRB) “ground-breaking”, as it has “streamlined the recruitment process, ensuring transparency and efficiency, and has already made a positive impact on healthcare accessibility and quality, particularly in rural and underserved areas.”
