Meat and fish shops in Ïewduh are allowed to reopen from November 9.
In an order issued today, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner said that the shops are allowed to reopen based on re-assessment of the feasibility of their re-opening.
The order said that these shops will be allowed to open from 8 am to 6 pm daily subject to compliance with the protocols issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department.
As per the protocols, the Market Committee must ensure that regular sanitization of the markets are carried out before and after business hours and also frequently touched items like door handles/ knobs/other surfaces are regularly cleaned.
It must also ensure that customers bring their own bags and avoid the use of plastic bags as much as possible to minimize the chance of spread of the Covid-19 virus, as it lasts longer on smooth and non-porous surfaces in comparison to porous surfaces like cloth.
Fish stalls and butcher stalls should make provision for covering of meat/fish to avoid accumulation of flies around the stall area.
As per the laid down protocol, the market must encourage cashless transactions, wherever feasible to minimize direct contact.
