Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Dr Mukul Sangma slammed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for supposedly lying to the central government for claiming that all households have been given water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Speaking at back-to-back meetings in Selsella and Phulbari, Mukul said, “They (the state government) sent a report back to the central ministry in Delhi where they wrote that they provided water supply to each household in all villages. I want to ask, is water supply available in every household? Is it the reality?”
Meghalaya has even won awards for its work in the JJM, which Mukul described as shocking.
“How is it possible? One the one hand, our people are suffering from a lack of water and on the other hand, the central ministry awards our Chief Minister. Do you understand the hypocrisy of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)?” he added.
An emotional opposition leader wept in Phulbari, saying that the government had “destroyed my land and made my children cry” by failing to take care of the youth.
“People of Garo Hills and the whole of Meghalaya note that they have betrayed thousands of youths from Meghalaya. And if you vote for them for money, these politicians will not work for you and no one will care,” Mukul said.
