The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government of not being accountable to the people.
The party’s West Garo Hills convenor, Richard M Marak, said this today, highlighting the problems facing teachers, MeECL casual workers and alleged corruption and irregularities to the tune of hundreds of crores of rupees.
“Are the people of Meghalaya getting what they deserve?” Marak asked. “What about the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly dome, which collapsed during the 50th year of statehood? Is this how Meghalaya should be represented at the national level?”
He stated that the TMC will not rest until mis-governance is rooted out.
Marak also referred to the recent statement of cabinet minister James PK Sangma, who said that the TMC has no right to claim to speak for the people as none of its MLAs or MDCs won an election in their own right but defected to other parties after being elected.
“Our minister,” Marak said referring to Sangma, “is in fact rattled, I presume by the overwhelming response, support and love the Meghalaya TMC is receiving. Hence he is trying to pull us down. He is scared and afraid to fight democratically but his unparliamentary words will never harm the TMC or the support we are getting from people across Meghalaya.”
