Leader of the opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, has criticised the MDA government, accusing it of misusing funds under various schemes instead of using them to help the state’s residents.
At a block level meeting in Nongstoiñ today, which, the TMC said, drew more than 5,000 people, Dr Sangma said that the party is the only one capable and willing to take on the BJP’s agenda in Meghalaya “because we have a sense of commitment and a responsibility to fulfil.”
Pointing to alleged financial irregularities in the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion scheme, Dr Sangma commented, “The initiative of the then government (under himself) for sustainable living has been completely derailed by the current dispensation; it is being manipulated by the current government.” He added, “I have raised it with the government in the Assembly that there is plenty of money to focus on the betterment and the implementation of the plan. However, the government has a different agenda of looting the money.”
Also present on the occasion, where a TMC party office was inaugurated in Nongstoiñ, was state party president Charles Pyngrope.
Pyngrope said that if elected to form the government in 2023, the TMC will ensure a welfare-centric government for the populace.
Further, appreciating Meghalaya TMC Nongstoiñ block president Macmillan Kharbani for his consistent efforts, Pyngrope commented, “This village has an honest leader with a vision for the future.”
Others presented included TMC state vice-presidents George B Lyngdoh and James Lyngdoh.
