Slamming the alleged corruption in the present MDA government, All India Trinamool Congress MLA Zenith Sangma said, “This is the most corrupt government Meghalaya has ever seen.”
He was speaking at the block-level meeting of his party in Salmanpara, South West Garo Hills today.
“The people of Meghalaya are suffering from all four corners. Every class and every portion of society is neglected in this government. The time has come to defeat them through the ballot in the coming elections,” Sangma added.
He also reminded the audience about the various schemes introduced by Dr. Mukul Sangma when he was the chief minister.
“We can see what’s happening in our State today and we can compare it with the eight years of Dr. Mukul Sangma’s tenure. If we look closely, we can determine the amount of work Dr. Mukul has done especially in Ampati; whether it was the medical college or police stations in the constituency, it was brought in during his term,” Sangma said.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma said that he had made efforts for better infrastructure in the State during his tenure as chief minister.
“I brought funds from Asian Development Bank to construct the roads. PMGSY is given to the State for kutcha road; there were not enough funds from the Centre. I initiated the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Programme. I also initiated the Integrated BASIN programme for entrepreneurial purposes and brought money from international banks,” Dr. Sangma said at the block-level meeting of his party in Salmanpara, South West Garo Hills today.
Further cornering the NPP-led MDA government, Dr. Sangma questioned, “I wanted to create a sustainable partnership by implementing the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme. Now the government is saying that they want to give money through the FOCUS scheme to the farmers. It is part of the same scheme. Where has the money gone?”
AITC MLA Winnerson D. Sangma lashed out at the NPP-led MDA government over unemployment.
“With so many vacant posts in so many departments, I want to ask, what is the government doing about it? The current government is not giving opportunities to our youth even if they want to pursue their businesses, there is no help whatsoever from the administration for budding entrepreneurs,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by many AITC leaders including Dengnakpara MDC Sadhiarani M. Sangma, Damas MDC Pardinand D. Shira, Amongpara MDC Nehru D. Sangma among others.
