Chairman of the Meghalaya State Health Advisory Board and Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has expressed deep concern over frequent incidents that have claimed precious lives due to poor maintenance by the Power Department.
On Friday, he took the proactive step by submitting a memorandum to Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal to urge for the immediate restoration of damaged electric poles and electric lines in the state.
This move followed the recent incident in which a man lost his life at Umshaken village in Ri-Bhoi after coming into contact with live electric wires that had fallen on the road connecting Umden and Umshaken on July 26.
During the meeting with Mondal, Syiem highlighted the deplorable condition of the Power Department, particularly concerning the maintenance of electric lines, which have led to numerous unfortunate incidents resulting in the loss of lives.
Syiem urged the minister to promptly investigate the incident at Umshaken and also requested immediate release of compensation to the bereaved family of the victim, Neverson Nongkseh.
