A minor boy who had allegedly been kidnapped by his uncle was rescued yesterday following a joint operation by Ri-Bhoi and Assam police.
On the morning of July 25, the boy, a resident of Umling, was on his way to school when he was reportedly abducted by his uncle, who spirited the child towards Assam.
Worried at the disappearance of the boy, family members undertook a search before filing a complaint with police in Nongpoh.
With coordination between Ri-Bhoi and Assam police, a search operation was undertaken and, based on information received, the authorities concentrated their search in the Shantipur jungle of Jagiroad, Assam, where the boy was found. He was then taken to a healthcare institute for treatment.
However, the uncle is still absconding and police have initiated a manhunt.
