Masked men assaulted three non-tribal construction workers today, killing one of them.
According to police, the incident took place at around 11:15 am at a private construction site in Umsohkhlur, Mawlai Mawroh.
The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Arjun Ray of Nongmensong locality. The two other workers at the construction site were injured.
Ray was admitted to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences where he succumbed to his injuries, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Rituraj Ravi said.
He said a case is being registered and investigation is under progress to identify the culprits.
The incident comes just two weeks after two non-tribal labourers were killed in Ichamati area. Esan Singh and Sujit Dutta were allegedly lynched by miscreants following a protest called by the KSU and other pressure groups against the Citizenship Amendment Rules.
Two men from the union were arrested in that case.
