The Congress MLA cum MDC from Mawhati Charles Marngar was elected unopposed as the new Deputy Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today.
The election was held following the resignation of former Deputy Chairman and NPP MDC, Alvin K. Sawkmie.
Speaking to media persons after his election, Marngar recalled all the “false promises” made by the previous executive committee headed by Titos Chyne on the floor of the house regarding the boundary issue and hardships faced by the people of his Mawhati constituency.
“It is sad to tell you that for the past more than four years no one has come to pay a visit in our region and keep their promises. This is the reason that this time I decided to be on the ruling side so that in the remaining months as an MDC I can apprise the CEM and the EC to pay heed to the matter,” he said.
Marngar also expressed gratitude that the new EC has promised in the floor of the house to visit the border areas two weeks.
“Now that we are in the ruling side, it will be our golden opportunity to bring about a change into the issue unlike when I was in the opposition where no one heard me despite repeatedly raising the issue in the house,” he added.
Marngar however reiterated that the Congress party’s decision to work together with NPP in the KHADC has nothing to do with State politics where Congress is in the opposition side.
