A man has been convicted of a rape committed nearly 16 years ago and has been sentenced to eight years rigorous imprisonment.
The crime goes back to December 14, 2008 when a woman walking home was accosted by Se Phawa of Kyndong Tuber, who raped her.
The victim filed a complaint at Jowai police station and a case was registered and investigation led by Woman Police Sub-Inspector O Tyngkan.
The criminal trial finally came to an end three days ago when the court of NA Khan, Session Judge of West Jaintia Hills, convicted Phawa of rape and sentenced him to undergo eight years of rigorous imprisonment. The judge also recommended Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the victim.
