A 41 year old man died after a car crashed into a road barrier and was ejected from the vehicle at the Umiam flyover, police said.
The accident happened at around 2:53 pm. The speeding car, a Wagon R bearing registration number ML 05-AC-5114, driven by one Govinda Biswas of Assam, lost control and ended up striking the barrier. The passenger identified as Nabin Singh of Mukhla village was ejected from the vehicle and fell off the edge of the flyover.
The passenger who sustained severe head injuries was pronounced dead by doctors at the Civil Hospital in Nongpoh.
Two other passengers, identified as Bijoy Singh (the deceased’s brother) from Mukhla and Baris Marboh of Puriang, also sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The vehicle was taken to the Umiam Police Station. An investigation into the incident is underway, police added.
