A small trader was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill a woman at Umdohlun weekly market, police said today.
According to South West Khasi Hills police, a woman identified as Etissiia Paliar of Umdohlun had lodged a FIR stating that the trader, whom she did not know, had threatened to kill her with a hammer yesterday at the market.
Acting on the complaint, police identified the alleged accused as Joseph Paliar of Pyndengrei-Mawkhmahwir, Nongstoiñ. He was detained and taken to Mawkyrwat police station for questioning.
According to police, during an enquiry Joseph had stated that he happened to have an argument with a girl who took his picture without his consent and stated that he threatened to break her phone with the hammer if she had taken his picture, but he had not threatened to kill anyone.
The alleged accused person was later released on bail bond, police said, adding, necessary action will be taken as per law.
