A 37 year old man was arrested for sending a bomb threat message to a person, threatening multiple bomb blasts in the city.
The accused, Edward Maiong, a temporary resident of Lower New Colony Laitumkhrah, was arrested today after an overnight operation carried out by the Special Operation Team (SOT), East Khasi Hills.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the accused had sent the SMS to one person (who was not named) on January 22 at 6:19 pm and identified himself as being a part of ‘Ri-Bhoi gang. He said the phone from where the threat of bomb blasts was made also recovered and seized.
“His links with any militant outfit cannot be ruled out at this juncture as there are incriminating evidences against him,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, the district police is conducting heavy checking at all points in the city including combing operations and intensified patrolling within the district to thwart any attempt to disrupt the Republic Day.
