West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo has challenged the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to show its report card after five years in power in the state.
“What has this government done in the past five years?” she said at a public meeting in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills today. “We challenge them to show their report card on what they did in the past five years. Why is it that after so many years, electricity hasn’t reached Meghalaya? Why is the younger generation not getting any employment opportunities?”
On the other hand, she asserted that the TMC is the only party capable of bringing good governance to Meghalaya, citing the party’s MYE youth empowerment scheme and WE Card for women’s empowerment, both of which promise Rs 1,000 a month to beneficiaries.
Party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee asserted that, if voted to power, it will be locals from Meghalaya who will run the government. This was an attempt to reassure the people of the state that Meghalaya will not be run from Kolkata.
Launching a scathing attack on the MDA government, leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma said, “We need to defend our tribe and fight against the BJP, not with mere weapons but with the power of unity. In the border issue between Meghalaya and Assam, we have seen that the lands were given to Assam.”
Dr Sangma also called out the BJP’s “tall claims”.
“In 2021, the BJP made tall claims that they would form the government in West Bengal and decimate the TMC. But, under the leadership of our beloved Didi, the BJP was decimated. If the TMC can decimate the BJP in Bengal, the people of Meghalaya can do the same here under the banner of Trinamool.”
