The Garo Students Union (KHZ), Aradonga regional unit, has urged the government o make the MeECL substation in Nongmyndo functional, for villagers to avail electricity.
According to the GSU, the sub-station was completed last year, which the department concerned has to make it functional immediately. The union said that the sub-station would cater to Nongmyndo, Nongtrai, Malangkona, Athiabari villages in West Khasi Hills district.
Urging the department to proceed with the recruitment process or sent engineers for smooth functioning of the sub-station, the GSU said this will regulate high/ low voltage, transmission and distribute power equally to the consumers like homes, offices and commercial areas. The MeECL should take note and depute staff like attendants, security guards, engineers, etc. without further delay to maintain all indoor and outdoor equipment in good operating conditions, it added.
“The entire region is reliant on that substation services. In the growing technological world, people are required to work through the networking system (i.e. online networking, online Banking, Information relating online, etc.) which the people living in that region are facing difficulties in every steps of their work without proper electricity for days especially in this rainy season,” the GSU added.
