Shillong, May 7: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress has criticised the authorities for the “complete failure” to address the “escalating stray dog menace” in Shillong.
Morning joggers and pet dogs are attacked and citizens live in fear while stepping out of their homes, the state women’s wing president Joplynn Scott Shylla said in a press release last night.
“This is not just an animal issue, it is a law and order and public safety issue. The safety of women, children and senior citizens is being compromised every single day,” she added while demanding strict and effective stray dog control measures, large scale sterilisation and vaccination drives and proper monitoring of high risk areas.
