The Meghalaya Mahila Congress in a statement today opposed the extension of the lockdown, saying that the government took the decision without a clear goal.
Meghalaya Mahila Congress president Joplyn Scott Shylla said that the government has also failed to put in place measures to help the marginalised sections of society during the lockdown when they are prevented from making a living.
“The Congress Party deeply feels and empathizes with those who have to undergo difficulties in such a situation,” Shylla stated.
She also questioned the urgency of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to have attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam Chief Minister earlier this week when, she said, as head of the government he should have set a better example for the people of the state.
