The Lukha Festival 2024 at Sonapyrdi, East Jaintia Hills, organised by the Sonapyrdi Tourism and Economic Development Society (STEDS), concluded yesterday.
Speaking as the chief guest Narpuh MDC Emlangki Lamare said that he will find ways and means to see that a footbridge is constructed at River Lukha that will attract and boost tourism.
He also promised to talk to the committee overseeing the District Mineral Fund (DMF) for the bridge while urging STEDS to also find ways and means to further uplift tourism in the region.
He also urged the state government to speak to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to speed up the repair work on the highways of East Jaintia Hills before the onset of the monsoon.
Numerous activities were held as part of the festival. Emohida Ymbon and Dorachiva Daw won the beauty pageant contest as winner and runner-up respectively while in the futsal, Deiñchynrum A emerged the victors over second-placed Deiñchynrum B.
The festival also saw musical performances by Summersalt, DJ Fred, and DJ Meban.
