Liquor will become cheaper across the State from tomorrow.
According to official sources, the sale of all brands of liquor and wine will be at reduced prices from tomorrow.
It may be recalled that on February 26 the State cabinet has decided to reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on liquor. The VAT has been reduced from 40 per cent to 37.5 per cent.
Further, the lifting charges have been reverted to Rs.2 as previously implemented prior to May 2020.
With the reduction in VAT on liquor the government would be losing revenue to the tune of Rs. 80 crores to Rs 85 crores annually.
The State government said it had to reduce the VAT on liquor since neighbouring Assam had reduced taxes on alcohol drastically.
