Meghalaya will now have a digitised database of basic data of all the landlords/tenants as the first phase registration will commence in seven localities of the state capital under the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016.
After more than a year that the government launched the online MRSSA portal on September 8, 2022, an official statement here today has asked residents of Nongrim Hills, Pohkseh, Nongrah, Nongmensong, Lapalang, Riat Laban and Wahdienglieng to register and enter the details of their residents.
The online application developed by NIC will enable the citizen (landlords/tenants) to register themselves with prior verification from the local authorities.
The web application (https://megrssa.nic.in) can be easily accessed from PCs, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Landlords and tenants can also register through mobile app which can be downloaded from the website.
Documents required and other detailed information can be obtained from the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong and the respective Rangbah Shnongs, the statement said.
The State government had introduced the act in 2016 with the purpose to ensure and enhance security of the citizens by making careful and thorough examination of tenants residing in the state.
“The implementation of the Act will prevent anti-social elements from gaining shelter in the state and create a control mechanism to check illegal infiltration or illegal migrant who might be coming and residing in different localities,” the statement added.
