Shillong, Jun 29: Shillong Lajong FC today announced that the club have extended the contracts of eight key players on multi-year deals.
The eight are forward Phrangki Buam (3-year extension), defender Kenstar Kharshong (3 years), forward Everbrightson Mylliempdah (3 years), midfielder Gladdy N Kharbuli (3 years), midfielder Tremiki Lamurong (3 years), goalkeeper Siwel Rymbai (2 years), defender Kitboklang Khyriem (2 years) and midfielder Abhay Gurung (2 years).
“These extensions reflect the club’s long-term vision of building a strong core of local players who embody the identity, passion and footballing culture of Meghalaya,” SLFC said in a press release today. “Each of these players has shown immense dedication, growth and potential, contributing significantly both on and off the pitch.”
Lajong had a fantastic Indian Football League season in 2025-26, finishing in runners-up spot – their best ever finish in the tournament (formerly known as the I-League). Phrangki finished with eight goals, the highest of any Indian player in the season, and Everbrightson was just behind on seven. Phrangki was also named Most Valuable Player (ie Player of the Tournament). This led to speculation that they would be gobbled up by Indian Super League or other IFL clubs but they have committed their futures to Lajong, at least for now.
Recently, there has been speculation that, with IFL champions Diamond Harbour FC in difficulty, the way would open up for Lajong to participate in the upcoming ISL season. However, club Managing Director Larsing LD Sawyan said the team were focused on the IFL.
“We are happy to extend contracts with the eight players, seven of whom have been part of the Lajong Academy development programme. This shows the commitment of the club towards ensuring a strong and sustained participation in the upcoming Indian Football League,” he stated.
Sawyan added that two players are set to sign contracts with ISL teams but did not reveal their names.
