The Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited (LUMPL) has rejected the complaint made by a group by the name of ASMA against the company’s limestone export from Nongtrai to Bangladesh.
Reacting to a report that came out in this newspaper regarding the complaint lodged by ASMA to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the company said the contents of the complaint are “false, misleading and fabricated”.
“LUMPL is a law abiding corporate citizen and conducts its business in full compliance with applicable laws. The limestone exported by LUMPL is utilised by its parent company in Bangladesh in full conformity of applicable laws,” LUMPL director of corporate affairs George Chacko said in a statement.
“LUMPL has obtained due approvals from the relevant authorities of India to produce a certain quantity of limestone in a year, and we operate within that limit,” he added.
Stating that the complaint made by ASMA about the weighing sysyem is devoid of truth, Chacko said that LUMPL’s weighing system is of modern and advanced technology which is calibrated by the competent authorities of the government every year.
“LUMPL duly maintains the register as per the statutory requirements which is checked and verified by the competent regulators,” he said.
