Participants from various villages of West Jaintia Hills descended on Ladthadlaboh playground in Jowai today for a Horticulture Fair and Exhibition.
The event saw the farmers show off their hard work and expertise and allowed them to connect to potential customers and suppliers.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya motivated the farmers to fully utilise the opportunity offered by the exhibition and commended the Horticulture Department for hosting the exhibition annually.
Concerning the misuse by some of the Lakadong Turmeric tag, Sohliya said the district administration and Horticulture Department will investigate and take action to ensure that the authenticity of the product is maintained.
DC Sohtun, Director of Horticulture also spoke on the occasion.
The organisers awarded prizes to the best exhibits. Two first place awards went to Lanalut-i Syngkon from Priang village in Potted House Foliage Plants and Creepers as well as Foliage categories. Syngkon also won the third place prize in both categories.
Julie Ryngkhlem of Wapung (Ferns) and Emborlang Phawa of Wahiajer (Bonsai) were the other first place finishers.
