Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to a pressing civic issue: the acute lack of dustbins in and around Shillong city.
It is unfortunate to observe that public dustbins have been removed from key locations such as Police Bazar and even from the area opposite the Municipal Office itself. These were critical spots that saw high footfall, and the absence of waste disposal infrastructure is already leading to random littering. This not only degrades the city’s aesthetic appeal but also poses a significant health hazard.
Shillong, known for its natural beauty and clean environment, cannot afford to let civic neglect tarnish its image. I urge the authorities to immediately restore dustbins at important locations, ensure adequate waste disposal systems are in place, and streamline daily garbage collection. Public awareness and accountability must also go hand in hand with infrastructure improvements.
Hoping this letter will prompt the necessary action.
