A one day millet recipe contest was organised by KVK Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Umiam, as a part of the ‘International Year of Millets 2023’ today at Purduwa village.
The event was held to mark the importance of millets in our daily diet and promote their use.
The programme was attended by 31 female farmers of Purdwa along with the headman of the village, Wosly Rongpi, and the village secretary.
Technical Officer Jessica Dohtdong highlighted the nutritional benefits of millets in our daily diet during the welcome address. She also briefly narrated the history of millets amongst the Khasi tribe. This was followed by an address by Meghna Sarma, who explained about packages and practices of millet cultivation. She also explained the different types of millet and their cultivation methods.
Seven groups of farm women participated in the contest and were awarded with different prizes.
