A one day millet recipe contest was organised by KVK Ri-Bhoi, ICAR Umiam, as a part of the ‘International Year of Millets 2023’ today at Mawbri village.
The event was held to mark the importance of millets in our daily diet and promote their use. The programme was attended by 25 farmers.
Technical Officer Jessica Dohtdong highlighted the nutritional benefits of millets in our daily diet during the welcome address. She also briefly narrated the history of millets amongst the Khasi tribe. This was followed by an address by Meghna Sarma, who explained about packages and practices of millet cultivation. She also explained the different types of millet and their cultivation methods.
Ibakerlin Madur won the millet recipe contest, with Niewlang Khamdeit second and Manisha Kharsati third. Evergreen Kharsati and Ailinrity Syngkli received consolation prizes.
