Shillong, Apr 23: PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Umroi Cantonment celebrated World Book Day today, promoting the importance of reading and literary activities among students.
The programme began with a special morning assembly, where student Gyanankur Kashyap presented a book review and highlighted the significance of the day. A motivational talk on the importance of reading was delivered by Mukesh Kumar, PGT (Hindi), encouraging students to cultivate the habit of reading.
Librarian Krishna Nand Singh emphasised the role of books in shaping knowledge and personality.
A DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) session was organised, during which students and teachers engaged in silent reading by bringing their favourite books.
Various class-wise activities were conducted to ensure maximum participation. Students of Classes 3–5 participated in a ‘Story Chain’ activity, fostering creativity and imagination. Classes 6–8I engaged in a ‘Book to Poster’ activity, while Classes 9–12 created ‘Bookfluencer’ videos, blending reading with digital expression.
