The East Jaiñtia Hills unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), in collaboration with Downtown Hospital, Guwahati, will hold a free health camp in Khliehriat on June 11.
Specialists in various fields, such as paediatrics, gynaecology, oncosurgery and ENT will be present at the programme.
Addressing the media here today, KSU district leader KS Suchiang lamented that Khliehriat Civil Hospital lacks many facilities and can only cater to patients with minor ailments. More serious cases are referred to Jowai or Shillong.
The pressure group also said that the primary health centre (PHC) at Umkiang should be upgraded to a community health centre (CHC) and that the PHC at Pamra is overcrowded and another should be constructed in the area to accommodate the public.
Suchiang also questioned where the Rs 20 crore that was reportedly earmarked for conversion of the Lumshnong PHC to a model hospital three years back has gone as the project has yet to see the light of the day.
