The Khasi Jaintia Christian Leaders Forum (KJCLF) has added its voice to growing calls in parts of the state for a review of Meghalaya’s job reservation policy.
In a release today signed by KJCLF secretary Rev Edwin H Kharkongor, the forum said that the policy, for the sake of the youths of today and future generations, should be corrected to make up for the times when it has been “overlooked and unheeded by indifference and selfishness”.
Meanwhile, the KJCLF, together with a few city-based church leaders, recently held an in-house conversation on the status of Christianity and the position of the Church, its institutions and the experiences of Christian believers in the country today.
“We feel that Christian leaders must have an understanding of the law and be able to counsel their members on issues affecting the profession and practice of their faith and mission, as well as on issues affecting the society in general. We exhort leaders of Churches and institutions to conduct relevant training on these matters from time to time,” Rev Kharkongor said.
The forum also called on fellow Christians in the region to join together in prayer that peace will prevail in Manipur and to be of help and support to the immediate victims of the ongoing conflicts in the fellow North East state.
