In a shocking incident, an elderly woman about 70 years old, who was allegedly kicked out of a house in Mawlai, was rescued from a makeshift shop in Wahumkhrah today.
A Good Samaritan who wants to remain anonymous told Highland Post that the woman is known by the name Lakshmi and was out in the streets for two days in the cold.
She said she was told by residents of the neighbourhood that the woman was staying with a family for almost 30 years and was forced to leave by the grandchildren of the owner, who passed away.
The Good Samaritan said the old woman was asking for food and the people of the locality have also helped in giving her food and clothing. “It hurts to know that she slept out in this cold wearing just thin clothing while I am sleeping peacefully at home with my family. Therefore I informed Kong Agnes Kharshiing who promptly informed the police and rescued her,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kharshiing said woman bore injury marks and she has been provided shelter at an old age facility here.
