The Khasi folktale called Tiewlarun has been brought to life on the silver screen through the film ‘Apot’, which was screened at St Edmund’s College here today.
The film was produced and directed by Raphael Warjri and is based on the folktale as put down by Rabon Sing Kharsuka. The treatment of the film is an independent expression of the scriptwriter while the story was retained without changes.
Others who worked on the project included co-director Rembrandt I Kharnaior and executive producer Banjop Leo Kharmalki.
The screening, organised by the Khasi Department of St Edmund’s was attended by the main cast, Synranki Najiar and Darhun Marbaniang, while students participated in an interaction after the screening. A souvenir was also released by the chief guest, Bro Simon Coelho, the college principal. Also present on the occasion were retired diplomat Rudi V Warjri, Prof Antoinette Kharmalki of NEHU’s Khasi Department, journalist Patricia Mukhim and college faculty.
Bro Simon, in his brief speech while releasing the souvenir ‘Rynsan’, appreciated the endeavour of the Khasi Department in organising the film screening and stated that such extracurricular activities will cultivate positive development for the enhancement of the academic career of the students.
The film screening session was initiated by Bobby S Basan, Head of the college’s Khasi Department in commemoration of the centenary celebration of the college.
