The border committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) met today to discuss issues related to the dispute border with Assam.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne informed that the council had formed the committee last year but in that time the state governments of Assam and Meghalaya had also taken up the issue together.
The KHADC’s stand is that history, documentation and official maps should not be overruled in settling the border issue.
In this regard the committee has compiled a report to prove the KHADC’s stand on the border.
He also reminded the parties involved that, though Meghalaya was created in 1972, the district council has been in existence since 1952.
The KHADC will next hold a meeting in Ri-Bhoi, where much of the disputed land falls, on October 8 to discuss with the Syiems and headmen before moving on to Nongstoiñ to discuss the matter as it applies to West Khasi Hills on October 12.
