The Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CoRP) has claimed that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has not helped residents of the disputed Block 2 area with land documents to help them prove their claim to be part of Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters after meeting KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member Pynshngain Syiem today, a delegation made up of CoRP and landowners of Ummat village said that the council, being the guardians of the land of the indigenous people, did not take the responsibility to provide the land records to the landowners who wanted them.
Pateng Marsing, working president of CoRP, said that 350 land documents had been submitted to the council several years ago but the KHADC has done nothing with them.
“We condemn the KHADC that has taken this serious matter very lightly, especially when the time for resolving the second phase of the boundary talks (with Assam) is closing in,” Marsing added.
