To keep a check on businesses operating illegally in its jurisdiction, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), through its enforcement team, launched surprise raids today in the Pilangkata and Byrnihat areas of Ri-Bhoi.
These raids targeted businesses run by non-tribals to see whether they had obtained the necessary trading licence from the KHADC. Many were found not to have the correct paperwork.
The inspection was supported by the Dorbar Shnong of Pilangkata and state police.
“We have witnessed that many shops and businesses are running without trading licences and, therefore, we have given them a deadline of 15 days to provide valid documents failing which legal action will be taken against them,” the KHADC’s enforcement inspector F Kharsyntiew said.
