The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Committee has sought the Governor’s support for the upkeep of the Khasi Heritage Village at Mawphlang.
The EC led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Shemborlang Rynjah paid a courtesy visit to Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan on Friday and sought the overall maintenance and preservation of cultural and infrastructural assets across the region.
During the meeting, Rynjah briefed the Governor about the challenges faced by the Khasi Hills region and sought financial support to enhance developmental activities.
The EMs briefed the Governor about the functioning of the district council and thanked him for his guidance and assured full cooperation in working towards the welfare of the people of the Khasi Hills region.
The Governor conveyed his best wishes and also expressed hope that the new Executive Committee would work with dedication to address the aspirations of the people and uphold the constitutional values enshrined in the Sixth Schedule.
He raised concerns about the need for stronger conservation of forest resources and biodiversity in the Khasi Hills region.
The Governor emphasised the urgency of preserving ecological balance while pursuing development goals and called on promotion of Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric cultivation, and the strengthening of beekeeping practices in the region.
The visiting members were also informed that a series of planned meetings with relevant stakeholders would be initiated to address these environmental challenges in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.
