The Khad-ArDaloi Law College in Jowai has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma after the Bar Council of India (BCI) had asked it to pay Rs 35 lakh for the renewal of affiliation.
According to the college, the amount is meant for inspection and guarantee fees as well as a default fee. While the college stated that an amount of Rs 3.5 lakh was paid in August 2020, the BCI had not made the adjustment.
Besides charging the college with the high amount, which it is supposed to pay in one go, the BCI responded to the college after 10 years though the application for renewal of affiliation was made since May 6, 2010, the college said.
Informing the chief minister that the college is being sponsored by the Society for the Study of Law, Jowai since 1968, Principal of the College, Rimaya Manar urged the government to rescue the college enable students to get the necessary license to practice as advocates.
