The Karbi Students Association (KSA) and the Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM) today held a meeting to discuss on the need to foster peace between the Karbi and Pnar communities living along the inter-state border.
The two student organisations representing the Karbi and Pnar communities met at the Karbi Hemtun in Guwahati and resolved to work together in building mutual trust and bring back normalcy as well as to create a conducive environment for further discussion.
A copy of the resolution was signed by JSM President Leningstar Rymbai and KSA President Jemson Timung.
“The Karbis and the Jaiñtias have a long tradition of living together as good neighbours and this will be carried forward to create a strong base of mutual trust,” the leaders said.
A clash between the two communities erupted last month. A tax-gate erected by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council was seen as a cause of tension.
The district administrations of Karbi Anglong and West Jaiñtia Hills district too held two rounds of peace meetings in Khanduli in a bid to restore peace and tranquility among the two communities.
