Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew was today appointed as the acting chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
Thangkhiew will continue in this position till the new chief justice is appointed.
It may be noted that Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee retired from service today.
According to a Law Ministry notification, Justice Thangkhiew, a judge of the Meghalaya High Court, will take charge as the acting chief justice from tomorrow.
It was the second time that Thangkhiew was appointed as acting chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The first was in November 2021, when Justice Ranjit V. More had retired as the chief justice of the High Court.
