Non-inclusion of the Jaiñtia language in the State Anthem has irked the Jaintia Students Union (JSU) who wants corrections made.
The anthem was released today by the government on the occasion of Statehood day. The anthem was composed by Late Neil Nongkynrih, founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir with lyrical representation of English, Khasi and Garo languages.
However the JSU pin-pointed the exclusion of Jaintia, which is one of the three main tribes of Meghalaya, and said instead of English the language of the Pnars should have been included.
The union also criticised the MLAs from the Jaintia region and said they chose to stay silent.
Meanwhile, the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) criticised the government for choosing Tura as the venue to release the anthem.
The pressure groups said Shillong should have been chosen for the release of the anthem being the state capital or to release it in all the district headquarter of the state.
