The NSS unit of Jowai Polytechnic concluded its a two day cleaning drive as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign today.
Programme Officer, Nesserdemy Sangma said that the cleaning drive was held to instil in the students an understanding of oneself in relation to community, create sense of civic and social responsibility to community at a same time gaining skills in mobilizing community participation, leadership quality and democratic attitude with the NSS motto, ‘Not me but you.’
The cleaning drive which started from the institute’s campus was also conducted along the roadside of Iew Shyiap till Sieñ Raij Jowai parking lot.
The NSS unit has appealed citizens including shopkeepers, vendors of Jowai and the neighbouring villages to keep the surrounding clean as during the rainy season, the area is clogged with plastics that flow to the river, which is the main source of drinking water.
