The garbage problem in Jowai has subsided with the Jowai Municipal Board taking steps to clean up the town and lift the garbage from roadsides.
This was revealed in the submission by Jowai Municipal Board before the division bench of Meghalaya High Court today.
The lawyer appearing for Jowai Municipal Board also told the court that it was working with all localities in Jowai to address the garbage issue.
The municipal board also appealed to the residents of Jowai to segregate the waste so that the disposal of the same is easier.
Meanwhile, Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Jowai which had filed a public interest litigation on the matter also agreed with the submission made on behalf of the respondent authorities, particularly the Jowai Municipal Board, that some progress has been made as far as collection of garbage is concerned.
The headmen’s body also reported that there has been some movement in the garbage getting removed from the town.
Following the submission by both parties, the High Court directed the Jowai Municipal Board to file an affidavit at the next hearing on June 17 indicating the immediate future steps and long-term plans to resolve the garbage problem in Jowai.
