In the wake of devastating floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall in Garo Hills region, Chockpot MLA Sengchim Sangma, BDO JN Sangma, police officials and the Garo Students Union (GSU) joined hands to provide relief to affected families today.
While inaccessible roads hindered the team’s ability to reach all the affected areas efforts were made to reach out to the families with essential supplies.
Landslides and floods have ravaged communities, leaving many without shelter especially in Chockpot. It is reported that the overflowing Dareng River has inundated numerous residences, with about 16 homes affected.
GSU regional unit president, Jish Sangma said reports from Silki and Rambragre indicate that up to 30 residents have suffered due to the floods, but communication challenges due to network and road disruptions have hindered further assessment.
