Members of the Jaiñtia National Council today refused to let garbage trucks of the Dalmia Cement Company enter the district.
According to the JNC, the company has not ensured safety of drivers of these trucks who were not provided with essential gears and leaking trucks that creates a smelly headache on the streets.
Eight trucks were stopped at Mookhep while they were transporting garbage to Thangskai from the Marten landfill in Shillong.
JNC President Sambormi Lyngdoh and Environment Secretary, Nini Sungoh also met officials of the company which included Pant HR Head, Dinesh Kr Bhardwaj and Head Technical Plant, Vinod Kumar Singh to discuss on the matter.
Lyngdoh said the company agreed to look into the concerns and to ensure framing guidelines that will not hamper the health of the people and the environment.
